Sense Changes For The Mom To Be

Talk about life-changing events. Birthing is one, but your pregnancy that precedes the coming of your little one is the point where all the changes begin. Your body becomes noticeably heavier, wider and fuller to carry your baby for nine months. You become irritable and aggressive. At times, you feel weepy and depressed.

Whatever changes you are undergoing, know that you are not alone. In fact, during pregnancy, even your senses are expected to undergo a few alterations. Check out the most common ones in the following list.

• SENSE OF SIGHT. Pregnancy can temporarily alter your eyesight. If you ever had fantasies of looking sexy while wearing a pair of glasses, your baby bumping months is the perfect excuse to fulfill those fantasies. You really need glasses anyway to give your eyes the right focus.

Experts explain that there are two possible reasons that account for the changes in your sense of sight. The first reason is that the cornea of your eye thickens, which is one of the effects of progesterone. The second reason is that during pregnancy, eye pressure drops so that the eyeballs become smaller than they really are.

• SENSE OF SMELL. You can smell some things that people around you cannot. There is nothing wrong with you. You are no freak, you are not being oversensitive and you certainly are not imagining things. One of the most pronounced changes brought about by pregnancy is your heightened olfactory sense, thanks to higher estrogen levels in your body.

Your nose can spot the slightest whiff of perfume, and even of your body odor and discharges down under. You may also find your body growing extremely sensual as well because your nose can now easily detect the pheromones – the sexy chemical scent – that your husband or any nearby sexually active male is subconsciously releasing.

• SENSE OF TASTE. Your sense of taste first takes a nose dive then later ascends a peak. During your first trimester of pregnancy, you may lose your appetite for good food. This is because of the uterus displacing the acids in your body, causing you to feel nauseated. However, as your body adjusts to the life form you are carrying, your body becomes less susceptible to nausea spells.

On your second trimester of pregnancy, you then begin to start craving for particular food, and your appetite miraculously gets a comeback. Expect your preferences to be inconsistent though. This week, you could be digging in on sweets but next week, you could be looking forward to saltier flavors.

Expect a world of changes to come to your life when you become pregnant: blurred vision, heightened olfactory sense, and an aversion that gradually changes to a robust appetite for food. Remember that you may need glasses to keep your eyes focused. You can be very sensitive to scents and odors. You will also have your fill of vomiting and food cravings. When you are subjected to these sense alterations, do not be alarmed. These irregularities are perfectly normal for moms-to-be like you.
